I already loved The Bird And The Bee, so I was pretty stoked when I heard they were coming out with an entire album of Hall & Oates covers. I’m generally wary of cover albums (remember when Scarlett Johannson did all those Tom Waits songs? Come on!) but Inara George & Greg Kurstin do a damn good job on this one. It’s super poppy, catchy and fun, just like the Hall & Oates originals, but the arrangements are different enough that it’s like listening to the songs for the first time.
Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates is definitely worth getting, though any Hall & Oates fan will wonder why “You Make My Dreams Come True” didn’t make the track list. Maybe they’re saving it for Volume 2.
