MIDNIGHT MOXIE IN SPACE

Wed, June 13th at 8:00pm (on the nose!)

$10 in advance, $12 day of show, all ages
Get tickets here.

Coming up on June 13th, the Moxie girls will be opening up for the funky/poppy/soulful sounds of Lake Street Dive. (Seriously, if you haven’t heard this band, they are great. Watch this video!)

Follow that gravitational pull up to SPACE in Evanston (just north of Chicago, and right off the train!) for a great night of bands led by lady singers.  Also, for those of you who aren’t so into standing at shows, this is your rare opportunity to see Midnight Moxie in a venue that has seats.

“Charmed Life” by The Divine Comedy

The Divine Comedy, if you’ve never heard of them, is an Irish group that formed in the late ’80s.  They’ve released some ten albums, two of which I have.  Their style is catchy orchestral pop with smart, vivid lyrics, and the singer, Neil Hannon, has a real David Bowie thing going on.

This track is one that I recently spent a few days listening to on repeat.  It’s a sweet one, with a lovely train-like rhythm to it.  The soft start and dramatic build reminds me of a Rufus Wainwright song, which is probably why I fell in love with it in the first place.

Mucca Pazza: Boss Taurus (official music video)

One of my favorite Chicago bands, or anywhere bands for that matter, just released this awesome new video.   If you’ve never seen/heard Mucca Pazza, they’re amazingly good.  Fantastic musicians in awesome costumes with hilarious personalities, playing marching band dance music.  Doesn’t get much better.

“Whistle Stop” from Robin Hood

Arguably one of my top 10 favorite songs from an animated feature.

I’d love a poster-sized print of this on my wall.

Whitney Houston’s isolated vocal track on “How Will I Know.”

This would give me the chills on any day, but today, it made me tear up.  What an amazing voice.  Man, I’m really sad about this one.

“It Must Be Santa,” by Bob Dylan

This video is insane.  Bob Dylan’s hair alone is super weird. Add to that the messiest house party you’ve ever seen, a glass-shattering lunatic on the run, and the fact that Dylan never even comes close to cracking a smile - or really to acting like he has any idea what’s going on - and you have one unforgettable music video.

Merry Christmas to all!

xoxo, Nia
