Odin Eating Like a Person
Get ready to laugh until you cry, folks. This dog is really cute, but the guy in the background of this video totally losing it is what really gets ya.
“Downwind”
by Sean Rowe
Good rhythm, cool voice, great song. Look this guy up.
Lincoln
an SNL Digital Short
I wish this just went on and on forever.
“I Wanna Be Your Man”
Performed by AG
Written by Lennon/McCartney
I’ve seen Adrianne Gonzalez perform a few times with her crew of singer-songwriter pals (mostly women, each of whom has enough talent and confidence to make you forget about every popstar who’s ever been called a role-model to young ladies.)
This is the first I’ve heard her on her own, or recorded. Now I’m thinking the AG she’s going by for this EP of Beatles covers has nothing to do with her initials, but really stands for Amazingly Great.
Beatles covers are hard. Everyone knows that. These are the songs we’ve all been listening to since birth (for the younger ones), or at least the birth of our love for rock & roll. They are in our DNA. So, when someone messes with a Beatles song, it gets personal quick.
But AG treats these covers exactly how I always wish people would when playing someone else’s music. One, she changes them. A lot. It’s not just another person with a nice voice singing “Yesterday.” No. She’s changing the mood on a lot of these songs, which are from the Beatles early, happy-go-lucky recordings, to have a darker, more mysterious vibe. It works beautifully. And two, she’s not worrying about the gender of the songs, which is something I just hate. There’s nothing worse, in my opinion, than taking a song everyone’s heard five million times and changing the sex of the object of your affection to fit your real-life situation. It’s selfish and unnecessary. Granted, AG may not have altered the lyrics because they fit with her personal preference, but I like that she takes it even further and makes the gender of the song the subject of this video.
The 6-track EP is called Reimagine: The Beatles By AG, and every song on it is beautiful. Just wait ‘til you hear Misery … chills! The recording just came out on October 9th (John Lennon’s birthday), and is available on iTunes. You can also download this track for free here.
The Smallest Functional Bicycle
This video is perfect. I love miniatures, and miniatures that actually function like their larger counterparts are just the best.
Isaac’s Live Lip-Dub Proposal
This one really got me by the end. Lovely.
The State Of Us: Ep. 3 - Millions and Millions of Nuggets
A coworker of mine recently introduced me to this hilarious series of news-style YouTube videos. The State of Us is only 4 episodes in, and I’m already quoting them, sometimes out loud.
The show plays around with that Daily Show/Weekend Update formula - two hosts taking real news stories and running with them far off into the world of nonsense. These guys do a great job of it. I watched the first 3 episodes back to back (the first is more of a teaser, but is still very funny) and had to stop drinking my carrot juice because I was laughing too hard and too suddenly to be safe from spitting it all over the computer screen.
I hope these guys hit it big time and this show keeps going and getting even better. For now, give ‘em a hand and spread it around. And if you like this episode, watch the rest of them here.
Mucca Pazza: Boss Taurus (official music video)
One of my favorite Chicago bands, or anywhere bands for that matter, just released this awesome new video. If you’ve never seen/heard Mucca Pazza, they’re amazingly good. Fantastic musicians in awesome costumes with hilarious personalities, playing marching band dance music. Doesn’t get much better.
Hedgehog in the Fog
A classic Russian animated short film from 1975. Based on a story by Sergei Kozlov, directed by Yuri Norstein.
This is such a sweet, thoughtful little video. Based on a Russian folktale, it’s the story of a hedgehog who gets lost on his way to see a friend. Next time you have 10 minutes to spare, check this out.
RED PANDA GOES CRAZY ON A PUMPKIN
Oh no!
This video of a red panda playing with a pumpkin is so out-of-control cute. It’s like someone taught this animal exactly how to be the most adorable thing, and it did that. And just when you think it’s cuted to its utmost, it outcutes itself!
